Calls to 900 numbers can cost far more than a normal call, so you may want them blocked on your phone, or on a phone someone else in your home uses. The block is usually set up by your phone company, not in the phone's settings. In the US, ask your local telephone company to block 900-number dialing. Under FCC rules the company must do it free if you ask within 60 days of starting new service, and may charge a reasonable one-time fee after that. On a mobile phone, ask your carrier what premium-number blocking it offers, because the standard call barring settings on the phone have no premium-number option. In the UK, 09 numbers are premium rate, and your provider can bar them; EE, for example, says to call 150.

In the UK, the equivalent numbers begin with 09. Ofcom says these premium rate numbers are mainly used for services such as competitions, TV voting, chat lines and professional advice services, and that "You can bar them from being dialled from your phone, as you can with other numbers." Ofcom lists the service charge for 09 calls as ranging "from 1p to £3.60 per minute", plus your phone company's access charge.

EE's guidance, for example: "You may decide to bar voice calls to 09 numbers from your phone. Call us on 150 and we will set the bar for you." EE adds that the bar does not cover third-party voice short codes, so those can still be charged.

6. What an Android app can do

Android lets an app with the call redirection role cancel outgoing calls, so an app can stop calls from your phone. What it blocks depends on the app. NoDial works on specific numbers rather than number ranges:
