Can You Block Outgoing Calls on Verizon, T-Mobile, or AT&T?
NoDial Editorial / 2026-10-05If you want calls you make to stop going through, your carrier is only one of the places that can do it, and the three big US carriers don't offer the same thing. Verizon, T-Mobile and AT&T each publish different tools for blocking outgoing calls, and none of them cover everything: this guide checks what each one actually offers, on their own support pages, for three cases: all outgoing calls, one specific number, and outgoing international calls.
This guide is about Android (and carrier account) options; NoDial, the app it mentions, is Android only. If you want to know why calls come in but won't go out, see Can Receive Calls but Can't Make Calls on Android. If you searched for how to hide your own number when you call out (caller ID), that's a different setting than anything on this page — check your Phone app's "Show my caller ID" option instead.
Checked against Verizon, T-Mobile and AT&T's own support pages on October 5, 2026. Carrier menus, phone numbers and policies change, and support staff don't always describe them the same way, so confirm with your own carrier before relying on any of this. Where we could not find or confirm something on an official page, we say so rather than guess.
1. The quick answer
None of the three carriers has a self-service (online) switch that blocks all of your own outgoing calls, and none has a confirmed self-service way to block outgoing international calls either — every documented path runs through a phone call, and even then the carrier doesn't always say which direction it covers. For one specific number, only T-Mobile publishes a consumer feature that fits (Family Allowances, a paid add-on for managing other lines), and it caps out at 10 numbers and excludes international ones. For outgoing international calls, T-Mobile has the clearest path (a free call that it documents as blocking outgoing calls specifically); Verizon's only documented option is also a call, to 611, and Verizon's own FAQ doesn't say whether that covers outgoing calls, incoming calls, or both; and AT&T has neither confirmed online nor by phone in what we could find.
| Need | Verizon | T-Mobile | AT&T |
|---|---|---|---|
| Block all outgoing calls on your own line | ✕ Not found | ✕ Not found for your own line | ✕ Not found |
| Block outgoing calls to one number | ✕ Not found (only incoming-block tools) | △ Family Allowances, paid, 10 numbers | ✕ Not found |
| Block outgoing international calls | △ Call 611 — direction not stated | ✓ Call 1-877-746-0909 | ✕ Not confirmed; call and ask |
"△" marks an item that isn't fully confirmed: Verizon's FAQ doesn't say whether calling 611 blocks outgoing calls, incoming calls, or both, and T-Mobile's per-number option is a paid family-control product built for managing another line, not a plain block-this-number feature.
2. Verizon
All outgoing calls
We could not find a Verizon support page that describes a way to block every outgoing call on a standard line. Verizon's own "Block and unblock calls, texts, services" page is about the opposite direction: it describes blocking "Prevent a device from getting unwanted calls and texts from a specific number," not stopping calls you make.
One specific number
The same page lets you block up to 5 numbers for free for 90 days through My Verizon, or permanently block up to 20 numbers with a Verizon Family subscription — but both are described as stopping that number from reaching you, the same direction as Android's own block list, not stopping you from calling it.
Verizon's parental-control product (Verizon Family, formerly Smart Family) can get you closer, on a managed line: a 2023 Verizon news article on using the app explains that "from the Smart Family app, parents can block certain numbers or add them to the trusted contacts setting so kids can only call or text friends and family that have been approved." Restricting a line to approved contacts blocks outgoing calls to everyone else, but it's built for a managed child's line on a paid family plan, not for blocking one number on an adult's own line.
International calls
Verizon's international FAQ addresses blocking under the heading "How do I block an international phone number?", alongside its options for blocking incoming international numbers: "To block all international calls, call 611 and speak to one of our representatives." The FAQ doesn't say whether this covers outgoing calls, incoming calls, or both — it's grouped with other answers about blocking numbers that call you — so if you call, ask specifically for outgoing calls to be blocked.
We did not find a self-service, online way to do this. The same FAQ, under "How do I unblock international calling?", says "To allow international calls, you can add an international calling plan on the Plans page in My Verizon." That confirms international calling plans exist and can be added in My Verizon, but it doesn't say that removing one blocks outgoing international calls — we found no Verizon page that says that, so we aren't including it as a method here.
One more detail from the same FAQ, worth asking about when you call: it names Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands, Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands as "not international," since they use the North American Numbering Plan and are dialed like domestic numbers. It doesn't mention Canada in that list.
3. T-Mobile
All outgoing calls
T-Mobile's Family Allowances page describes schedules and a talk-time limit (Whenever Minutes) for "managed lines" that a Parent Line administers, which can block all calls (not just outgoing) during set hours or once the talk-time limit is reached. It's designed for managing other lines on the account, and we found no equivalent for blocking all of your own outgoing calls on your own line.
One specific number
Family Allowances has a direct fit here: "Use Never Allowed numbers to always block calls and messages from a specified list of 10-digit numbers." It's a paid add-on to the account, limited to 10 numbers on the list, doesn't work over Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi calling, and — notably — "You can't add international numbers to the Always Allowed or Never Allowed lists," so it doesn't help for a foreign number.
International calls
T-Mobile is the most direct of the three here. Its own support page states: "We offer the ability to block outgoing international calls or texts from your phone. This block isn't available to add online, so just give us a call at 1-877-746-0909 or contact us by message or social to add the service." The same page lists what it doesn't cover: "This service doesn't block calls to Canada or the US Virgin Islands," it "can't block outgoing international calls if you are roaming domestically on another carrier's network," you can "still receive international calls/texts" once it's on, and "third-party international calling apps that bill you separately are not blocked."
A site search of t-mobile.com for "call barring" returned zero results (checked October 5, 2026). Unlike GSM carriers in some other countries, T-Mobile doesn't publish self-service *33*-style barring codes for US consumer lines; the block above, through customer service, is the documented path.
4. AT&T
All outgoing calls
We found no AT&T wireless support page describing a way to block all outgoing calls on a cell line.
One specific number
AT&T's two call-management products both point the other direction. AT&T Secure Family (its parental-controls app) is documented around location, screen time, and app or website content filtering; we found no feature list that includes blocking a specific contact's calls. The feature AT&T does advertise for blocking numbers, the free AT&T Call Protect app, is described as letting you "add unwanted callers to your personal block list" — the app's own call log, AT&T notes, "doesn't log outgoing calls," which is a sign of which direction it's built for: calls from a number, not calls you place to it.
International calls
AT&T's international calling feature is a discount package, not a gate: AT&T's own page says it adds "unlimited calling from the U.S. to 85+ countries" and "discounted rates when calling 140+ countries" for a monthly add-on charge, and you can remove it through myAT&T's add-ons page. Removing it does not block international calls; it reverts you to standard pay-per-use international rates, since AT&T's own support article on calling internationally describes dialing out with "+ or 011, then the country code" with no mention of needing the add-on first.
We could not confirm an AT&T wireless page or phone number that blocks outgoing international calls the way T-Mobile's does. AT&T does publish a "Block Outgoing International Calls" toggle, but it's for AT&T Digital Phone (the home landline/VoIP service), not for a wireless cell line, and it isn't an option on a mobile account. If you want this on an AT&T cell line, call AT&T support and ask directly whether a line-level international-calling restriction is available — we can't confirm the answer either way.
5. All three, side by side
| Verizon | T-Mobile | AT&T | NoDial (Android app) | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Block all outgoing calls | ✕ | ✕ | ✕ | ✓ Always, scheduled, or after a call limit |
| Block one number (outgoing) | ✕ Family product only, allow-list approach | △ Family Allowances, paid, max 10, no int'l numbers | ✕ | ✓ Any number you add, no limit |
| Block outgoing international calls | △ Call 611 — direction not stated | ✓ Call 1-877-746-0909 | ✕ Not confirmed | ✓ By country, choose exceptions |
| Where it runs | Carrier network | Carrier network | Carrier network | On the phone |
| Who can turn it off | Account holder, via Verizon | Account holder, via T-Mobile | — | You, in the app |
"△" marks something that isn't fully confirmed: Verizon's FAQ doesn't say whether calling 611 blocks outgoing calls, incoming calls, or both, and T-Mobile's per-number option exists only through a paid parental-control product built for managing another line, not a plain block-this-number feature on your own line.
6. Android-side options that work on any carrier
Because none of the three carriers covers all three cases, it's worth knowing what the phone itself can do, independent of which carrier you're on:
- Call barring is a GSM/LTE network feature that a phone's own settings can turn on, including an "all outgoing calls" category and an "international calls" category — if your carrier provisions it on your SIM. Full codes, the barring password, and troubleshooting: What Is Call Barring? and How to Block International Calls on Android.
- Fixed Dialing Numbers (FDN) restricts the SIM to a list of allowed numbers (PIN2 required) — the strictest option, and the closest thing to an allow-list that works the same regardless of carrier: Fixed Dialing Numbers (FDN) on Android.
- An outgoing call blocker app runs on the phone rather than the carrier's network, so it needs no barring password and works the same on Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T or any other carrier. NoDial blocks the specific numbers you choose, all outgoing calls, or international calls except the countries you allow; none of these touch incoming calls. Setup for a specific number: How to Block Outgoing Calls to a Specific Number on Android. If the number you want blocked already shows up in your own "blocked numbers" list and calls still go through, that list only stops incoming calls from it: How to Block a Number on Android covers why.
If what you actually want is to stop yourself from calling specific numbers, rather than fight with a carrier feature built for something else, NoDial does that directly: you add the numbers, calls to them end on the phone before they connect, and turning a number's block back off takes effect an hour later on purpose. Emergency numbers can never be added to the list, and it works the same no matter which of the three carriers above you're on.
7. What to say when you call your carrier
If you decide to call Verizon, T-Mobile or AT&T, you'll get a faster answer if you're specific:
- Say "outgoing" explicitly. Agents default to thinking about unwanted calls coming in, which is a different team and a different tool.
- If it's about one number, give the full number in international format and say whether it's domestic or international.
- If it's about international calls generally, ask whether the block covers calls to Canada and the US Virgin Islands (commonly excluded) and calls made while roaming on another network in the US (commonly excluded too).
- Ask whether the restriction is free or tied to a paid add-on or family-control product, and whether it's reversible from your account or only by calling back in.
8. FAQ
- Can I block outgoing calls on Verizon?
- Not through any self-service switch we could find. Verizon's documented blocking tools stop calls and texts from a number reaching you, not calls you make. For international calls specifically, Verizon's FAQ offers one path — call 611 and ask a representative — but doesn't say whether it blocks outgoing calls, incoming calls, or both.
- How do I block outgoing international calls on Verizon?
- Call 611 and ask a representative to block international calls on the line, and specify that you want outgoing calls blocked. Verizon's own FAQ lists this under blocking an international number and doesn't confirm the direction it covers. We found no self-service (online) way to do this on Verizon; its FAQ only describes adding an international calling plan in My Verizon, not removing one to block calls.
- Does T-Mobile have call barring?
- T-Mobile doesn't publish self-service *33*-style call-barring codes for consumer lines (a search of its own site for "call barring" returns no results). What it does offer, by phone only, is a block on outgoing international calls and texts, added by calling 1-877-746-0909.
- Does T-Mobile block outgoing international calls automatically?
- No. It's an opt-in block you add by calling T-Mobile; it doesn't cover calls to Canada or the US Virgin Islands, roaming on another carrier's network inside the US, or third-party calling apps, and it doesn't stop you from receiving international calls or texts.
- Can AT&T block outgoing international calls?
- We couldn't confirm an AT&T wireless page or support number that does this. AT&T's "Block Outgoing International Calls" feature is for AT&T Digital Phone, its home landline/VoIP service, not for a cell line. Removing AT&T's international calling add-on only removes discounted rates; it doesn't block the calls. If you need this on a wireless line, ask AT&T support directly.
- Can I block one specific number from calling out on any of these three carriers?
- Only T-Mobile publishes a consumer feature for it (Family Allowances' Never Allowed numbers, a paid add-on limited to 10 domestic numbers). Verizon's equivalent is a parental-control allow-list for a managed line, not a direct one-number block. AT&T has neither. An app that runs on the phone, such as NoDial, works the same way regardless of carrier.
- Will blocking international calls also block calls to Canada?
- Not with T-Mobile's documented block, which specifically excludes Canada and the US Virgin Islands. Verizon's FAQ names Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands, Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands as "not international" but doesn't mention Canada, so we can't confirm how Verizon's 611 block would treat a Canadian number — ask when you call.
- Is there a way to do this myself, without calling the carrier?
- Not for international blocking on any of the three carriers — every documented path we found (Verizon's 611, T-Mobile's 1-877-746-0909) runs through a phone call, not an online account setting. Everything else documented above, including any carrier's specific-number block beyond a paid family product, also requires a call or an account subscription. An outgoing call blocker app such as NoDial is self-service on the phone itself, for any of the three carriers.
9. Summary
Verizon, T-Mobile and AT&T each handle outgoing-call blocking differently, and none covers all-calls, one-number, and international in one place, and none offers a confirmed self-service (online) way to block outgoing international calls. T-Mobile's phone-in block is the most clearly documented as covering outgoing calls; Verizon's phone option (611) exists but its FAQ doesn't say which direction it covers; AT&T's documented international block is for its home phone service, not wireless. For one specific number, only T-Mobile's paid Family Allowances fits, capped at 10 domestic numbers.
- No carrier here has a self-service "block all my outgoing calls" switch for your own line.
- Verizon: call 611 and ask a representative to block international calls, specifying outgoing — Verizon's FAQ doesn't confirm the direction on its own, and we found no self-service online way to do this. For one number, carrier tools stop calls reaching you, not calls you make — the one exception is a managed line under Verizon Family.
- T-Mobile: call 1-877-746-0909 to block outgoing international calls (excludes Canada and the US Virgin Islands). Family Allowances blocks a number both ways, paid, max 10, no international numbers.
- AT&T: no confirmed outgoing block for wireless, all calls, one number, or international. Its "Block Outgoing International Calls" page is for the home landline service.
- For a specific number, all outgoing calls, or international calls with exceptions you choose, on any of the three carriers, an app that runs on the phone such as NoDial does it without a carrier call.
