Changing Phones or Reinstalling NoDial
NoDial Editorial / 2026-10-06Your blocked numbers, their rules, and your memos are stored only on your phone — they don't follow you to a new device. Premium works differently: it's tied to your Google Play account and comes back automatically, with nothing to tap.
1. What's stored where
The numbers you've registered, the rule on each one, and any memos you've added all live only in NoDial's local data on your phone. None of it is backed up to an account you can sign into elsewhere. Premium, on the other hand, is a Google Play subscription — it's tracked by Google against whichever Google account bought it, independent of any one phone.
2. Setting up on a new phone
- Install NoDial — no account or email to set up, same as the first time.
- Add your numbers again from scratch, choosing how to block each one — see Getting started or Choosing how to block a number.
- If you had Premium, open NoDial while signed into the same Google account you subscribed with. It returns automatically — there's nothing to buy again and no "restore" button to find.
3. Why Premium comes back automatically
NoDial checks Google Play for any active purchase tied to your signed-in account every time it starts, and again whenever it returns to the foreground. If it finds your subscription, Premium turns back on right there — this is also exactly what happens after reinstalling the app on the same phone. The paywall screen itself states this plainly: "Previous purchases are restored automatically."
4. NoDial's own wording on switching devices
Settings has an explanation screen for this, titled "Switching devices," which reads in full:
"NoDial is tied to each device, so accounts are not transferred when you change phones (and this won't be offered in the future). On a new device, register your numbers again from scratch. Your old device's account is deleted immediately when you close the account (this can't be undone)."
5. Switching phones isn't the same as closing your account
Simply moving to a new phone doesn't delete anything on the old one by itself — your old device's data just sits there, unused, unless you explicitly close the account on it. Closing an account is a separate, deliberate action in Settings, covered in Notifications and settings, and it's immediate and irreversible once confirmed.
